Claim

Three oil tankers exploded and caught fire after striking sea mines while attempting an unauthorized route south of the Strait of Hormuz.

Attributed to Islamic Revolution Guards Corps Navy on IRNA

Evidence

One search found a Bernama report (datelined Tehran, Oct 29, carrying IRNA copy). It says IRNA, citing an IRGC Navy statement on the IRGC website, reported three tankers exploded and caught fire after hitting sea mines on an "unauthorised" southern route near the Strait of Hormuz. The statement said the incidents happened over the previous 24 hours. It said the ships had switched off radar and navigation systems and ignored IRGC warnings. So the attribution is real: the claim does appear in IRNA/Bernama as an IRGC statement. My follow-up searches for independent confirmation hit a tool limit and returned nothing. I found no corroboration from UKMTO, shipping data, Reuters, AFP, Bellingcat or other independent outlets. I found no existing fact-check and no denial.

Assessment

The only source found is the IRGC's own statement relayed by IRNA and Bernama. I found no independent maritime, shipping or media corroboration, and no fact-check from any named organization.

Confidence

Little or no independent corroboration was found - this reflects the current state of public evidence, not a guess.
