Multiple independent outlets reported on the September 2, 2026 killing of two Palestinian teenagers, Omar al-Naasan (19) and Khalil Shahada (16), in al-Mughayyir village in the occupied West Bank. The BBC (via Yahoo News) directly quoted the al-Mughayyir village council stating the teens 'were killed as they tried to stop Israeli settlers stealing sheep.' AFP (via TAG24) separately quoted village council head Amin Abu Alia saying Israeli settlers 'tried to steal sheep from two homes' before the Israeli army besieged and raided the village. WAFA News Agency (via Palestine Uncensored) also quoted Abu Alia describing settlers, under army protection, attacking two homes and stealing sheep, followed by sniper fire on confrontng residents. The BBC report also noted a competing Israeli military account: that its forces entered to provide security for an Israeli civilian and police 'trying to retrieve livestock,' and that troops fired on 'key instigators' of a 'violent disturbance' involving stone-throwing. I did not find a dedicated fact-check from Reuters Fact Check, AFP Fact Check, Bellingcat, or EUvsDisinfo specifically adjudicating this claim.
