Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) said two of its vessels were attacked on Thursday evening while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the UAE state news agency WAM. Adnoc reported no injuries and said the situation had been brought under control, while on Friday the UAE blamed Iran for the attacks. The incidents underscore the growing risk to commercial shipping in the waterway amid the confrontation between Iran and the US and its regional partners. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) organisation separately reported that a tanker had been struck by an unmanned aerial vehicle while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. UKMTO said the vessel sustained only minor damage, the entire crew was safe and accounted for, and no environmental impact had been reported. The use of drones against merchant traffic points to a pattern of low-cost attacks capable of disrupting one of the world's most important oil chokepoints.
