Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that talks with Oman on designating a temporary maritime route through the Strait of Hormuz are continuing, insisting the negotiations and any reopening of the waterway are "two separate issues." Speaking on Sunday, Araghchi said Tehran and Muscat were working to establish a temporary shipping corridor, while stressing that the decision on whether to reopen Hormuz remains a distinct matter for Iran alone. The talks come as US President Donald Trump has threatened to claim control of the strait, and as a US naval blockade of Iran continues in the surrounding waters. The closure of the waterway, through which a large share of global seaborne oil passes, has disrupted international shipping and raised pressure on both Tehran and its Gulf neighbours to find a workable arrangement.
