Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said "nothing justifies the reckless attack" that targeted the office of the prime minister of Iraq's Kurdistan region overnight. In a post on X, he urged "Kurdish friends" to be "vigilant against false-flag ploys to sow discord between neighbors," an implicit rejection of any suggestion of Iranian responsibility for the strike. Araghchi also invoked Iran's past record, saying Tehran had protected Kurdish groups "against Saddam and DAESH" and thanking the Kurdish authorities for the security they have provided along the shared border. Iran has previously struck targets in the Kurdistan region, making attribution of attacks there politically sensitive, particularly amid the ongoing regional conflict involving Iran and the United States.
