Tropical Storm Cristobal formed in the Atlantic Ocean around August 12 with 45 mph winds but was short-lived, weakening into a tropical depression and dissipating by August 13-14 as forecasters had predicted. Following Cristobal's demise, the National Hurricane Center continued monitoring two additional disturbances in the Atlantic, with forecasters flagging the possibility of a new tropical depression forming in the central Atlantic by the end of that week. The activity comes as NOAA updated its 2026 Atlantic hurricane season outlook following a below-average start to the season, which runs from June 1 through November 30 and typically peaks around September 10.
