Tampa Bay and much of Florida endured a prolonged, intense heat wave through mid-to-late August, with the National Weather Service issuing near-daily Heat Advisories from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. as feels-like temperatures repeatedly hit 108-112 degrees. A major heat dome expanded heat alerts statewide, and on Wednesday Miami reached an all-time record-tying high of 100 degrees for the first time since 1942, an unusual feat given the city's typically high humidity that normally caps temperatures below that mark. Drier air allowed the extreme reading. Throughout the week, Tampa saw highs in the mid-90s with feels-like readings around 110-112°F, mostly dry conditions, and only slim, scattered rain chances that were expected to gradually increase into the weekend as monsoonal moisture returned. Forecasters noted the dangerous, sustained nature of the heat, prompting continued public health warnings across the region.
