Tropical Storm/Hurricane Lala tracked past Hawaii's Big Island in mid-August, strengthening to a Category 1 hurricane with 75 mph winds before being downgraded back to a tropical storm as it passed without a direct landfall. The storm knocked out power to more than 130,000 households, caused at least one death, and damaged a cat sanctuary, leaving residents across the islands to begin cleanup and recovery efforts. As recovery from Lala continues, forecasters are now tracking Tropical Storm Moke, which is on a path to bring another round of heavy rain and strong winds to Hawaii. Residents who are still dealing with the aftermath of Lala are being warned to prepare for renewed flooding and wind impacts before recovery work is complete.
