Israeli officials held a special security meeting over paper kites launched from Gaza, warning they would be treated as drones, after several kites believed to have come from the Strip landed near Israeli communities adjacent to Gaza. Netanyahu's office said Israel had given Hamas a three-day deadline to halt the kite launches, threatening a broad air assault and evacuations of areas from which balloons, drones and kites are launched if they continued. Hamas rejected the threat, with spokesperson Hazem Qassem accusing Israel of fabricating a pretext to intensify attacks on Gaza. The dispute adds a new flashpoint to the fragile situation in Gaza even as ceasefire and peace-plan negotiations continue.
