The Trump administration's sweeping new 'economic D-Day' sanctions against Iran and its trading partners have drawn further pushback from Tehran and its allies. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf declared that Iran faces a 'full-scale economic war' but vowed the country would withstand the pressure, while China also criticized the measures. According to sources cited by The Times of Israel, Trump is opting to pursue sanctions to force Iran into submission rather than renew any memorandum of understanding with Tehran. Trump said Washington is not currently in talks with Iran and hinted that additional sanctions could target Chinese banks doing business with Iran, even as Iran's foreign minister hosted a Qatari diplomat for talks aimed at addressing the Strait of Hormuz situation.
