Microsoft announced that starting in November, Xbox Game Pass cloud streaming will be capped by tier: 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 for Premium, and 5 for Essential, with additional hours available for purchase. A report suggested the caps were set precisely at the point where cloud gaming stops being profitable for Microsoft, drawing criticism that the service is becoming worse and more expensive. The changes were also seen as poorly timed alongside Xbox's new partnership with TCL to bring the Xbox app to select smart TVs, since that deal's cloud-gaming appeal is undercut by the incoming hourly restrictions.
