More than 170,000 airline passengers were initially stranded in Indonesia after volcanic ash was detected in airspace near Jakarta following a series of volcanic eruptions, disrupting regional air travel. The eruption of Anak Krakatau, located about 150km from Jakarta, has continued, with the number of stranded passengers rising to roughly 270,000 as authorities extend airport closures in the region.
