Following the British announcement on 8 September 2026, a group of twelve Western states — Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom — issued a joint statement declaring their intention to introduce national restrictions, or to support European Union-level measures, on trade in goods originating from Israeli settlements they described as illegal under international law. Several said they were actively considering additional steps in line with their national procedures. The statement also reaffirmed the signatories' commitment to a two-state solution. Coordinated action by this bloc of European and North American governments significantly broadens the pressure on Israel over settlement policy beyond the unilateral British step, and raises the prospect of EU-wide measures affecting settlement exports.
