On 8 September 2026, an Emirati source confirmed to The Times of Israel a report that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been warned by the UAE leadership days before the 7 October 2023 Hamas assault that an attack was being planned, following a Haaretz report to that effect. Related reporting the same day said Egypt had also cautioned Israel before the attack that Hamas intended to "make the ground in Gaza tremble." Netanyahu rejected the account and said he would sue Haaretz over its report. The claims landed in the middle of an Israeli election campaign, in which 38 parties submitted candidate slates on the same day in a contest framed around pro- and anti-Netanyahu blocs, making the question of pre-war intelligence warnings and government accountability a central political issue.
