European Union member states have agreed to allocate €3.2 billion to purchase US-made Patriot interceptor missiles for Ukraine's air defence systems, funded under the bloc's broader €90 billion loan package, aimed at bolstering Ukraine's ability to counter escalating Russian missile and drone attacks. Separately, Germany announced it will send Ukraine PAC-2 air defense missiles from its own stockpiles for use in American-made Patriot systems, providing a faster stopgap. Kyiv has noted that most of the roughly 1,000 Patriot missiles it has on order will take years to arrive, making near-term transfers like Germany's especially significant for near-term air defence needs.
