Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III announced he is retiring at the end of the year after 38 years with the institution, including recent months spent defending it against attacks from the Trump administration. Bunch said the timing of his departure has nothing to do with those attacks and reflected on his legacy and mixed emotions in leaving.
