Two large real-world studies found additional benefits of semaglutide, the drug behind Ozempic and Wegovy, beyond weight loss and diabetes control: one linked it to nearly 40% fewer asthma attacks and 20% fewer COPD flare-ups, while another found a 21% lower risk of psychiatric hospitalization among nearly 15,000 people with bipolar disorder in Sweden. Researchers say effects on inflammation and brain pathways may explain the results, though clinical trials are needed to confirm them and effects were not seen with other GLP-1 drugs.
