Observations of interstellar comet 3I/ATLAS using ALMA revealed exceptionally high levels of methanol, suggesting it formed under conditions very different from typical solar system comets. Tiny icy grains around the comet were also seen releasing methanol like miniature comets, giving astronomers a rare detailed look at material from another star system.
