Volvo announced the return of a plug-in hybrid version of its XC40 crossover, three years after discontinuing it, featuring a redesigned exterior, an overhauled interior with a larger infotainment screen, and integration of Google's Gemini AI assistant. The updated model will also include a new sensor-and-software safety suite when it arrives at dealerships early next year. The move reflects automakers' growing push to embed generative AI assistants directly into vehicle infotainment systems, following similar integrations across the industry. Volvo's mild hybrid and electric EX40 versions remain on sale alongside the returning PHEV variant.
