New studies found that semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy) is associated with nearly 40% fewer asthma attacks and about 20% fewer COPD flare-ups in a large real-world study, and separately with a 21% lower risk of psychiatric hospitalization among nearly 15,000 people with bipolar disorder in a Swedish study. Researchers say the drug's effects on inflammation and brain-related pathways may explain benefits extending well beyond its approved uses, though clinical trials are needed to confirm the findings.
