A Russian strike on the Black Sea port city of Odesa on September 12, 2026 set fire to a multi-storey residential building, with firefighters from Ukraine's State Emergency Service working to extinguish the blaze in imagery distributed the same day. Alongside the residential damage, port infrastructure in the Odesa region was reported hit, including two dry cargo ships and a sea-going tugboat. The attack formed part of a broader overnight assault in which the Ukrainian General Staff said Russia launched 863 drones at the country over 24 hours, killing several civilians and wounding more than 20 people nationwide. Odesa's port complex is central to Ukraine's grain and metals exports through the Black Sea corridor, making repeated strikes on berths and vessels economically as well as militarily significant. Damage to civilian shipping also raises risks for the foreign crews and insurers involved in the corridor. The strikes reinforced a pattern in which Russia has paired attacks on Ukrainian maritime logistics with pressure on energy and industry.
