Russia's Ministry of Defence said that four people were killed in Ukrainian drone strikes and that its air defences shot down 389 Ukrainian drones during the night of September 11-12, 2026, with interceptions reported over Tatarstan, numerous other Russian regions and the occupied Crimean peninsula. Russian officials listed engagements over the Astrakhan, Belgorod, Bryansk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Kursk, Lipetsk, Oryol, Penza, Rostov, Samara and Saratov regions. The scale of the operation reflected Kyiv's continuing long-range campaign against Russian rear areas, refineries and military logistics far beyond the front line. The reciprocal salvos on the same night — hundreds of Ukrainian drones against Russia and hundreds of Russian drones and missiles against Ukraine — illustrated how deep-strike drone warfare had become the defining feature of the war's fifth year, with both sides seeking to shift momentum without major territorial breakthroughs. Strikes reaching Tatarstan, more than 1,000 kilometres from Ukraine, underscored the extended reach of Ukrainian long-range systems. Independent verification of casualty and interception figures from either side remained limited.
