Event-contract exchange Kalshi launched perpetual-style contracts, or 'perps', on gold and silver following approval from the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission, CNBC reported on Friday, September 11, 2026. The products extend Kalshi's regulated marketplace beyond its established political, economic and sports event contracts into precious-metals price exposure, using a contract structure borrowed from crypto derivatives trading that has no fixed expiry date. The move was significant because it marked a further blurring of the boundary between regulated US derivatives markets and the perpetual-futures model popularized offshore by crypto exchanges. Regulatory sign-off from the CFTC gave the format a foothold in a supervised US venue, potentially opening the door to similar contracts on other underlyings and increasing competitive pressure on incumbent futures exchanges. It also came during a period of heightened investor interest in gold and silver as hedges against inflation and currency risk.
