A 10-year study of more than 6,000 adults found that popular coronary calcium scans add little predictive value for heart disease risk in many people beyond standard risk estimates. However, the scans proved meaningfully useful for patients with borderline or intermediate risk, helping identify who is more likely to develop heart disease.
