A Russian drone struck a train at the Yahodyn railway station near Ukraine's border with Poland on Sunday, 13 September 2026, damaging a locomotive, according to images and information released by Ukraine's state railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia. The attack occurred shortly after senior visiting officials, including former prime ministers of the United Kingdom and Sweden, had passed through the area by rail, underlining the risk to foreign delegations travelling into Ukraine. Ukraine's railway network has been a repeated target of Russian strikes throughout the war and is the main route used by foreign politicians and officials entering the country, since civilian air travel remains suspended. The location of the strike, in the far west of Ukraine close to the NATO member Poland, drew particular attention because it was far from the front line and near allied territory.
