Russia's famed 'Trinity' icon by Andrei Rublev was removed from public display after a climate control malfunction, according to RBC. President Vladimir Putin had ordered the icon transferred to the Russian Orthodox Church in 2023, a move that drew criticism from art conservators. Museum experts had warned at the time that moving the fragile icon to the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius could destroy it, and reports now indicate its condition is critical three years later after its climate-controlled case broke down. The Moscow Patriarchate said Tretyakov Gallery staff would examine the icon, while Russia's Culture Ministry has reportedly reprimanded the Lavra for concealing the deteriorating conditions.
