PAGASA has issued a series of forecasts over recent weeks tracking the southwest monsoon, or habagat, which has continued to bring isolated to scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to Cebu and the wider Visayas region. Conditions have alternated between fair and cloudy skies with periodic rain threats, prompting precautions for events like the Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu triathlon due to forecast strong winds and rough seas. Separately, PAGASA also monitored low-pressure areas and Tropical Storm Peilou, which moved away from the Philippines without significantly affecting local weather, as the monsoon pattern continued to dominate conditions through late July, August, and into September.
