The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has warned that a very strong El Niño developing toward the end of the year will likely bring way below-normal rainfall to most of the Philippines. PAGASA Administrator Nathaniel Servando said some areas could see rainfall reduced by 60 percent or more in a given month. The forecast raises concerns about water supply, agriculture, and drought risk across the archipelago as the El Niño strengthens through the remainder of 2026.
