Philippine weather authority Pagasa has spent recent weeks tracking multiple weak tropical systems and low-pressure areas, most of which have been assessed as unlikely to strengthen or affect the country. These included Tropical Storm Peilou moving away from the Philippines in August, two low-pressure areas monitored in July, and a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility in September that is not expected to make landfall. Meanwhile, the ongoing southwest monsoon, or habagat, has brought recurring isolated rain showers and thunderstorms to Cebu and the Visayas region throughout August and into September, with generally fair to partly cloudy conditions in between rain events. The monsoon influence also prompted precautionary measures for the Ironman 70.3 Lapu-Lapu triathlon due to forecast strong winds and rough seas.
