The New World screwworm, a flesh-eating parasite the U.S. had previously eradicated, has returned and is spreading north, threatening livestock, wildlife, pets, and potentially people. UC San Diego researchers have developed a new tracking system to predict where the parasite could strike next as officials revive the eradication strategy that defeated it decades ago.
