NASA released a Sept. 5, 2026 satellite image showing Indonesia's Anak Krakatau volcano erupting ash and volcanic gases, captured by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) aboard the Landsat 8 satellite. The volcano, located between the Indonesian islands of Java and Sumatra, erupts regularly, with activity typically remaining mild. While most of Anak Krakatau's eruptions are minor, the volcano occasionally produces more significant events, and NASA continues to monitor its activity through satellite imagery as part of ongoing Earth observation efforts.
