Russian Major General Anton Grunis, commander of the 4th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade, has been killed in the war against Ukraine, according to Russian media outlets and Telegram sources cited by Ukrainska Pravda. His death marks another senior Russian military officer lost in the conflict, and Russian officials noted he had personally briefed Putin on the capture of the heavily fortified city of Kostiantynivka earlier this summer. Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces have since confirmed that their drones killed Grunis in occupied Donetsk Oblast, a claim also acknowledged by Lieutenant General Apti Alaudinov, deputy head of Russia's Main Military-Political Directorate and commander of the Akhmat unit, after both Ukrainian and Russian sources had already reported the death.
