After more than 700 days of searching, Washington County, Tennessee crews recovered the remains of Nancy Tucker near the Nolichucky River, confirming her as the last missing victim of Hurricane Helene's catastrophic 2024 flooding in East Tennessee. The Washington County Sheriff's Office confirmed the identification, closing out a lengthy search effort that had spanned nearly two years. Separately, Pigeon Forge was awarded $25 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce for sewer infrastructure upgrades intended to help restore the town's tourism economy, which was devastated by Helene. Together the developments mark continued recovery and closure efforts in the hard-hit region more than a year after the storm.
