The European External Action Service presented EU ambassadors with a draft proposal to add 1,576 individuals and companies linked to Russia's defense industry to the bloc's sanctions list over the war against Ukraine, representing one of the largest expansions of the EU's sanctions regime to date. The proposal is part of a broader push to tighten economic pressure on Moscow amid stalled peace efforts. Separately, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said the EU is preparing an additional, targeted sanctions package against 27 Russian individuals and entities linked to the abduction and indoctrination of Ukrainian children. The child-abduction sanctions would run alongside the larger defense-sector sanctions expansion, reflecting continued EU efforts to hold Russia accountable on multiple fronts.
