Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said a domestically produced interceptor drone successfully shot down a jet-powered Shahed drone, a newer and faster variant of the Iranian-designed drones Russia has increasingly deployed against Ukraine. Zelensky said plans are underway to scale up production of the interceptor system. The announcement comes as Russia has escalated use of jet-powered Shahed drones in strikes on Ukrainian cities, including recent attacks on Kyiv, prompting Ukraine to accelerate development of countermeasures capable of matching the drones' increased speed.
