Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced a new cooperation format called the Carpathian Eight, bringing together Ukraine, seven European countries and the EU as a bloc to coordinate on security, energy, logistics and cross-border issues. Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico did not attend the associated Carpathian Initiative summit in Ukraine despite previously announcing plans to visit on September 18, amid his broader reluctance to deepen commitments related to the war.
