NASA commemorated the 50th anniversary of the unveiling of its first space shuttle orbiter, OV-101, on September 17, 1976. The shuttle was originally slated to be named Constitution but was renamed Enterprise following a letter-writing campaign by nearly 100,000 Star Trek fans.
