The US State Department extended for a second consecutive year its visa sanctions barring Palestinian Authority officials, including President Mahmoud Abbas, from attending the UN General Assembly in New York, accusing them of failing to meet peace-process commitments. The EU and UN leadership criticized the move as a double standard and urged Washington to reconsider; Abbas will instead address the Assembly via prerecorded video.
