A new scientific study found that climate breakdown probably weakened a glacier whose collapse in August 2026 triggered catastrophic floods in Nepal and Tibet, killing over a thousand people. Researchers identified unusually warm conditions preceding the collapse of the 200,000 square-meter glacier, which sent an avalanche of 110 million cubic meters of snow and ice into the valley below, marking the first scientific analysis attributing the disaster partly to global heating.
