The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity report for September 10-16, 2026 detailed ongoing eruptive activity at multiple volcanoes worldwide, including Krakatau (Indonesia, with Strombolian eruptions and an ash plume rising 2.1 km), Aira/Sakurajima (Japan, with high SO2 emissions), Dukono, Ibu, Karangetang and Lewotolok (Indonesia), Kanlaon and Mayon (Philippines), Great Sitkin and Kilauea (United States), and Klyuchevskoy and Krasheninnikov (Russia). Most sites showed continuing activity consistent with recent weeks, including ash plumes, lava flows, incandescence and elevated gas emissions, with alert levels generally unchanged at low-to-moderate levels. No new evacuations, deaths or major damage were reported at any of the volcanoes this week, though aviation and local exclusion-zone advisories remain in effect at several sites due to ashfall and lava flow risks.
