Rivian announced in its 2025 impact report that its R2 electric vehicle has achieved a 50 percent lifetime carbon reduction goal four years ahead of the company's original 2030 target. The achievement reflects the vehicle's design and production process improvements, which incorporate more renewable energy in manufacturing, increased use of recycled materials, and more biodegradable components compared to Rivian's earlier R1 models.
