U.S. President Donald Trump signed into law a sweeping sanctions bill targeting Russia's energy and defense industries as well as its 'shadow fleet' of tankers used to evade existing sanctions. The Kremlin, through spokesman Dmitry Peskov, said the new measures were unlikely to contribute to a peaceful settlement of the war or to a revival of bilateral relations, while stopping short of directly criticizing Trump. The move adds new economic pressure on Moscow even as Trump simultaneously pursues renewed diplomatic engagement with both Kyiv and Moscow over ending the war.
