Hurricane Polo, located a few hundred miles south-southeast of Manzanillo, Mexico, underwent rapid intensification through the evening of September 21, 2026, with the National Hurricane Center forecasting it to become a Category 5 hurricane by September 22. As of 9:00 PM CST Monday, Polo had maximum sustained winds of about 110 mph (95 kt) and a minimum central pressure of 964 mb, moving slowly east-southeast. A tropical storm watch has been extended northward to Manzanillo as satellite imagery showed an increasingly well-defined eye and very cold cloud tops. GDACS issued a green notification for the cyclone, with Mexico listed as an affected country at medium vulnerability, though no population impact from Category 1-force winds has yet been recorded. Forecasters continue to monitor the storm's track and intensity given its explosive strengthening rate.
