The USGS reported two significant earthquakes: a magnitude 6.5 quake located 169 km west of Nikolski, Alaska, and a magnitude 6.4 quake located 49 km north-northeast of Kainantu, Papua New Guinea. No casualty or damage figures have been reported for either event.
