Typhoon Dujuan struck Japan's Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures near Tokyo, bringing violent winds of up to 144 km/h (89 mph), heavy rainfall, landslides and flooding. At least four to six people were killed and 22 injured, with rescuers searching for missing residents after homes collapsed; tens of thousands of houses near Tokyo lost power and travel was severely disrupted. Dujuan had earlier brushed Japan's Izu Islands after briefly reaching typhoon strength, weakening and then re-strengthening as it approached Tokyo, with authorities warning of potentially record-breaking rainfall before it moved away and warnings were downgraded.
