The UK government said wildlife in England and Wales will suffer lasting effects from this year's severe drought, which saw large parts of England and all of Wales record their driest Julys since records began in 1836. Officials noted the number of potentially damaging environmental incidents triggered by this year's hot, dry conditions has already surpassed 2025's total.
