Researchers gave the roundworm C. elegans a magnet-producing bacterium and found it extended average lifespan by more than 43% while protecting neurological and intestinal health. The team traced much of the benefit to suppression of ferroptosis, an iron-linked form of cell death tied to oxidative stress. The findings suggest microbial partners could be engineered to modulate aging pathways in animals, offering a new angle for longevity research beyond genetic or dietary interventions.
