The UK government has warned that wildlife in England and Wales will be affected for years by this year's severe drought, which saw large parts of England and all of Wales record their driest Julys since records began in 1836. The number of environmentally damaging incidents triggered by the hot, dry weather has already surpassed 2025's total.
