The Smithsonian/USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity report for September 10-16 documented continuing eruptive activity at numerous volcanoes worldwide, including Strombolian eruptions and an ash plume at Krakatau (Indonesia), ongoing ash emissions and elevated sulfur dioxide at Aira/Sakurajima (Japan), persistent ash plumes at Dukono, Ibu, Lewotolok and Karangetang (Indonesia), lava effusion at Great Sitkin (US) and Krasheninnikov (Russia), fountaining at Kilauea (US), volcanic earthquakes and gas emissions at Kanlaon and Mayon (Philippines), and a thermal anomaly at Klyuchevskoy (Russia), where the aviation color code was lowered to Yellow. None of the reports indicate deaths, injuries or major disruption, with most alert levels remaining at low-to-moderate levels, though local exclusion zones remain in place around several craters.
