CERN has started replacing key magnets in the Large Hadron Collider as part of its High-Luminosity upgrade, installing new superconducting magnets that will produce fields roughly 40% stronger than current ones. The upgrade will allow particle beams to be squeezed more tightly before collisions. The changes are expected to dramatically increase the number of collisions available for the ATLAS and CMS experiments to study, giving physicists a much larger dataset to probe fundamental physics questions in coming years.
